Toutefois, la mise en \u0153uvre n\u00e9cessitera un changement de paradigme.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Lors de la conf\u00e9rence annuelle des parties (COP) de l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, une d\u00e9cision historique a appel\u00e9 tous les \u00c9tats membres \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 tripler la capacit\u00e9 des \u00e9nergies renouvelables et \u00e0 doubler l'efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique d'ici \u00e0 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Un an plus tard, lors de la COP29 \u00e0 Bakou, en Azerba\u00efdjan, la transition vers l'\u00e9nergie propre s'est acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9e avec un nouvel engagement d\u00e9cisif pour le secteur de l'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 - l'une des d\u00e9cisions les plus importantes de la conf\u00e9rence de cette ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>Le Green Energy Storage and Grids Pledge, lanc\u00e9 le 15 novembre, vise un objectif de 1,5 TW de stockage d'\u00e9nergie au niveau mondial d'ici 2030, soit une multiplication par six par rapport aux niveaux de 2022, ainsi qu'un doublement des investissements dans les r\u00e9seaux et le d\u00e9veloppement de 25 millions de kilom\u00e8tres d'infrastructures de r\u00e9seau.<\/p>\n<p>Plusieurs pays, dont la Belgique, le Br\u00e9sil, l'Allemagne, l'Arabie saoudite, la Su\u00e8de, le Royaume-Uni, les \u00c9mirats arabes unis, l'Uruguay et les \u00c9tats-Unis, ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 pris cet engagement.<\/p>\n<p>S'adresser \u00e0 <em>Technologie de l'\u00e9nergie <\/em>Eddie Rich, directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de l'Association internationale de l'hydro\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 lors de la COP29 : \"Je suis tr\u00e8s heureux de voir les dirigeants mondiaux reconna\u00eetre pour la premi\u00e8re fois que les \u00e9nergies renouvelables ne sont pas seulement une question de volume, mais aussi de m\u00e9lange et, en particulier, de stockage\".<\/p>\n<p>Julia Souder, pr\u00e9sidente de la Global Renewables Alliance et directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du Long Duration Energy Storage Council (LDES), est d'accord, d\u00e9crivant le nouvel objectif de stockage de l'\u00e9nergie comme \"d\u00e9sesp\u00e9r\u00e9ment n\u00e9cessaire pour compl\u00e9ter les objectifs de la COP28 en mati\u00e8re d'\u00e9nergie renouvelable\".<\/p>\n<p>N\u00e9anmoins, pour atteindre cet objectif au cours des six prochaines ann\u00e9es, il faudra mobiliser \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle toutes les technologies de stockage, ce qui pr\u00e9sente une s\u00e9rie de d\u00e9fis.<\/p>\n<h2>La voie vers 1,5 TW d'ici 2030<\/h2>\n<p>M. Souder estime que le march\u00e9 mondial du stockage de l'\u00e9nergie continuera \u00e0 prosp\u00e9rer et atteindra finalement l'objectif de la COP29, principalement en raison de ses avantages financiers. Le rapport 2024 du Conseil de la LDES a soulign\u00e9 que le d\u00e9ploiement de 8TW de LDES d'ici 2040 peut permettre d'\u00e9conomiser jusqu'\u00e0 $540bn par an, des \u00e9conomies qui \u00e9clipsent celles d'autres solutions pour atteindre l'objectif z\u00e9ro net.<\/p>\n<p>\"Parce que [avec le stockage de l'\u00e9nergie] vous ne r\u00e9duirez pas toute l'\u00e9nergie \u00e9olienne et solaire, vous ne gaspillerez pas des milliards de dollars. Vous captez toute cette \u00e9nergie et vous faites r\u00e9aliser des \u00e9conomies \u00e0 vos clients\", explique-t-elle.<\/p>\n<p>Selon M. Rich, l'objectif fix\u00e9 par la COP29 constituera \"une grande impulsion\" pour l'industrie et permettra au march\u00e9 de se d\u00e9velopper. \"Ce n'est pas pour rien que nous fixons ces objectifs. Ils suscitent une prise de conscience politique et envoient des signaux au march\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Selon le <em>Technologie de l'\u00e9nergie<\/em>GlobalData, la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 m\u00e8re de GlobalData, la capacit\u00e9 mondiale de stockage de l'\u00e9nergie devrait en effet atteindre l'objectif de 1,5 TW fix\u00e9 par la COP29 d'ici \u00e0 2030.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/better-tech.oss-cn-hongkong.aliyuncs.com\/2024\/11\/Ba88F-global-energy-storage-capacity-outlook-2015-2030-1024x612.png\">  <\/p>\n<p>M. Rich explique que l'hydro\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 de pompage (PSH) a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le central dans la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, ayant contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 90% de la capacit\u00e9 mondiale de stockage d'\u00e9nergie d\u00e9ploy\u00e9e jusqu'en 2020.<\/p>\n<p>L'analyse de GlobalData montre que le PSH reste en t\u00eate, avec une capacit\u00e9 cumul\u00e9e mondiale estim\u00e9e \u00e0 189,46 GW d'ici \u00e0 la fin de 2024, tandis que le stockage par batterie arrive en deuxi\u00e8me position avec 98,78 GW, le stockage thermique 14,95 GW et le stockage \u00e9lectrom\u00e9canique 5GW.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, il est probable que le PSH perde son statut de principal contributeur \u00e0 la capacit\u00e9 de stockage mondiale au cours des deux prochaines ann\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00eame si le stockage par pompage, le stockage thermique et le stockage \u00e9lectrom\u00e9canique continueront \u00e0 se d\u00e9velopper - ils devraient atteindre respectivement 241,7 GW, 90,14 GW et 30,19 GW d'ici \u00e0 2030 - la trajectoire vers le d\u00e9passement de 1,5 TW est due en grande partie \u00e0 la croissance exponentielle pr\u00e9vue du stockage par batterie, qui devrait atteindre 1,2 TW d'ici \u00e0 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Les syst\u00e8mes de stockage d'\u00e9nergie par batterie (BESS) ont connu un d\u00e9veloppement acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9 ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des perc\u00e9es technologiques qui ont permis de r\u00e9duire les co\u00fbts et \u00e0 des innovations convaincantes qui ont ouvert la voie \u00e0 de nouvelles applications de stockage.<\/p>\n<p>L'\u00e9lan des BESS \u00e0 travers le monde est aliment\u00e9 par \"l'app\u00e9tit pour les projets de batteries du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des d\u00e9veloppeurs et des investisseurs\", combin\u00e9 \u00e0 une volont\u00e9 politique de plus en plus forte, explique Eva Zimmermann, responsable de l'\u00e9nergie flexible chez Aurora Energy Research. Sebastian Gerhard, directeur des batteries chez Vattenfall, reconna\u00eet que \"chaque \u00e9tape de la cha\u00eene de valeur - d\u00e9veloppement, production, construction et exploitation\" - conna\u00eet une croissance explosive.<\/p>\n<p>Toutefois, quel que soit le taux de croissance, M. Souder estime que chaque technologie de stockage de l'\u00e9nergie conna\u00eetra in\u00e9vitablement une expansion continue, car chacune d'entre elles r\u00e9pond \u00e0 un objectif sp\u00e9cifique pour diff\u00e9rents secteurs. \"Chaque secteur qui travaille \u00e0 la d\u00e9carbonisation - les ports, les transports, l'agriculture, le chauffage et le refroidissement urbains - a besoin de LDES, et chacun d'eux a besoin d'un type de stockage diff\u00e9rent.<\/p>\n<p>\"C'est pourquoi nous savons que nous pouvons atteindre cet objectif [de 1,5 TW]. Nous assisterons \u00e0 une croissance pour chaque technologie de stockage de l'\u00e9nergie, car nous avons besoin d'outils diff\u00e9rents pour des applications diff\u00e9rentes.<\/p>\n<h2>Des obstacles subsistent, mais les possibilit\u00e9s de d\u00e9velopper le stockage de l'\u00e9nergie sont illimit\u00e9es<\/h2>\n<p>Cependant, le d\u00e9ploiement du stockage de l'\u00e9nergie reste confront\u00e9 \u00e0 une multitude de d\u00e9fis.<\/p>\n<p>\"Je pense que l'un des d\u00e9fis est simplement le manque de compr\u00e9hension des avantages que la LDES peut apporter\", d\u00e9clare M. Souder. M. Rich ajoute que \"le stockage de l'\u00e9nergie, qui n\u00e9cessite souvent de grandes infrastructures, a des co\u00fbts d'investissement \u00e9lev\u00e9s, mais le march\u00e9 ne sait pas tr\u00e8s bien combien nous aurons besoin pour la batterie, et nous devons donc mieux concevoir le march\u00e9\".<\/p>\n<p>Il cite la Chine et l'Inde comme exemples de gouvernements qui ont envoy\u00e9 des \"signaux de march\u00e9 robustes\" pour la croissance de leurs march\u00e9s de stockage d'\u00e9nergie. \"Ils r\u00e9compensent non seulement l'allumage des lumi\u00e8res, mais aussi la fourniture d'\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 24 heures sur 24 et 7 jours sur 7. Cela signifie que chaque entreprise doit fournir non seulement de l'\u00e9nergie \u00e9olienne ou solaire, mais aussi un m\u00e9lange complet qui garantit une \u00e9nergie propre 24 heures sur 24 et 7 jours sur 7 gr\u00e2ce au stockage, avec des subventions fiscales, des mandats et une visibilit\u00e9 \u00e0 long terme des revenus.<\/p>\n<p>M. Rich s'explique : \"La premi\u00e8re chose que les d\u00e9cideurs politiques doivent comprendre, c'est que le nombre de sites potentiels pour le stockage de l'\u00e9nergie n'est pas limit\u00e9. Ce n'est pas cela qui va poser probl\u00e8me\".<\/p>\n<p>Il fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence aux recherches men\u00e9es par l'universit\u00e9 nationale australienne, qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un atlas mondial des sites potentiels de PSH en dehors des cours d'eau et a identifi\u00e9 plus de 600 000 sites dans le monde entier. Pour d'autres technologies LDES, les gisements de gaz \u00e9puis\u00e9s, les cavernes souterraines et les installations industrielles produisant de la chaleur exc\u00e9dentaire peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre r\u00e9affect\u00e9s au d\u00e9veloppement du stockage.<\/p>\n<p>M. Souder estime lui aussi que les d\u00e9cideurs politiques doivent contribuer \u00e0 cr\u00e9er de meilleurs march\u00e9s et \u00e0 actualiser les politiques afin d'int\u00e9grer la valeur du stockage de longue dur\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>\"Au Royaume-Uni, on s'est rendu compte qu'on avait perdu des milliards de livres sterling \u00e0 cause de la r\u00e9duction de l'\u00e9olien en mer, et on a donc mis en place un m\u00e9canisme de plafonnement et de plancher pour stimuler l'investissement dans les LDES. Nous avons \u00e9galement constat\u00e9 un nombre sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent de demandes de propositions de LDES de la part de divers gouvernements, comme ceux de l'Inde et de l'Allemagne\", ajoute-t-elle.<\/p>\n<p>\"Cela [les gouvernements qui envoient des signaux au march\u00e9] se produit d\u00e9j\u00e0. Ce n'est pas tout \u00e0 fait nouveau, et c'est pourquoi nous nous sentons si confiants dans le fait qu'il est possible d'aller plus loin dans cette voie\".<\/p>\n<p>La COP29 a \u00e9t\u00e9 l'occasion d'une nouvelle mobilisation de l'industrie en faveur de cet objectif. L'Association internationale de l'hydro\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 a lanc\u00e9 l'Alliance mondiale sur le stockage par pompage lors du sommet, avec 35 dirigeants de gouvernements nationaux et d'agences internationales qui ont accept\u00e9 de collaborer au d\u00e9veloppement des technologies de stockage de l'\u00e9nergie et de partager les politiques et les pratiques pertinentes.<\/p>\n<p>\"Lors de la COP de cette ann\u00e9e, on a pris conscience du fait que l'incorporation des contributions d\u00e9termin\u00e9es au niveau national dans la LDES constituera un outil tr\u00e8s puissant permettant aux pays de d\u00e9ployer leurs diff\u00e9rentes capacit\u00e9s de d\u00e9carbonisation\", explique M. Souder.<\/p>\n<p>Mais elle conclut en d\u00e9clarant qu'il ne sera peut-\u00eatre pas suffisant d'atteindre l'objectif de 1,5 TW.<\/p>\n<p>\"Nous avons vraiment besoin de stockage pour nous assurer que nous maximisons la valeur totale de l'\u00e9nergie renouvelable. Par cons\u00e9quent, m\u00eame si nous avons multipli\u00e9 par six la capacit\u00e9 de 1,5 TW, ce n'est m\u00eame pas suffisant.
